ANNE'S BLOG

Hey y'all!  Over the past year, Anne has asked on and off if she could blog.  I offered a few times to let her guest post here, but she would say, "no, I want my own blog."  I always felt conflicted, and didn't know if I should let her.  I felt like it may be putting her out there on the internet too much and I was unsure.
Well, last weekend she asked and I decided to let her do it.  She has been really excited about it!  The more I think about it, the more I'm glad she's doing it.  There are so many things that are beneficial about it...she's writing (which means using correct language/spelling), publishing her work, and also getting to be creative.  I can't wait to see what she comes up with!  --Here's the link if you'd like to check it out!
This little girl is something special I tell ya.

NAVY AND GOLD: AN OUTFIT POST

It's always hard getting up and out the door by 7:30 am.  So, since we were out by 7:15, I thought we'd snap some pictures for an outfit post.  It's been a while and I miss sharing outfits with y'all!
Something about it always makes me want to try a little harder to look my best.
I did a serious wardrobe purge back in the fall, so I'm feeling the need to shop and replenish some things.  It's a slow process--because who has the money to go buy a whole new wardrobe all at once??!!

I am loving these novi bracelets so much.  They are so versatile and go with everything!  Shauna is always coming up with new styles and making it hard not to want one in every color and shape!

I always have to include my sweet girl Anne.  She looks cute no matter what she wears, but I particularly love her in navy and white--which are staples around our house!
Anne's wearing: jacket and shirt/j.crew, jeans/gap,
I'm wearing: shirt/gap, cardigan/forever21, jeans/jcpennies, boots/gianni bini, bracelets and earrings/novi

SWINGING AT MASON PARK

You may have heard it said, if you don't like Mississippi weather just wait a bit and it'll change.  This is such a true statement...except for maybe in the blazing hot summer.  Last weekend we were having beautiful spring like weather.  I'm talking highs in the low 70's--which is perfect if you ask me!
On days like this, it's almost a crime to stay indoors, so we spent as much of it as possible outside.  We took the kids to Mason park--which is always a good time to capture some candid photos.
When these Hispanic children came, they were so afraid of Pepper.  It totally made me giggle...since she would never hurt a fly!  Before we left though, they loved her.  It was so cute.

BEDTIME STORIES

One of my most favorite parts of the day is our bedtime routine because I LOVE getting to snuggle up and read with my kiddos...I feel like both of my kids have just always loved books.  One of the first things Michael said when he found out I was pregnant with Anne was "we don't have enough books!"  So, obviously it is super important to us to surround our kids with great books.
Anne is such an independent reader now, but she definitely is not too big to crawl up and read a book with us!  She even likes to read to Liam a lot of the time.  He is loving the Little Blue Truck books right now.  I know we've read the two we have about a gajillion times!  We also read lots of nursery rhymes--today he loved Humpty Dumpty.  He thought it was so funny when we'd say it over and over.
What are some of your favorite children's books?

NEST STORY

We've spent the past week preparing for a video shoot with Nest--the thermostat.  It's kind of a long story, but basically Michael left a well deserved positive review on their website.  After talking with him further, they thought our family and town would make a good promo video!  We were excited to do it obviously, we love our nests!
We only had a week to get ready for it, so we were pretty much in cleaning mode all week.  Thanks to Ms. Sandy for helping us make it happen!

We woke up with the sun to put the finishing touches on the house and get ourselves ready for the day.  I was excited to support my friends by wearing one of Hope's free trade dresses she's selling at the Antique Mall and of course my Novi jewelry!!!

Once they got all the equipment set up, we started the interviews.  Michael interviewed, then me.  It was really fun to get to talk about our town and the movement that's happening in Laurel right now.  I basically got to tell them that you can be negative about any town in America.  You can always find something wrong and some reason not to invest...but you can also find something good if you look for it.  And if you focus on the good and try to make it even better, that's when you start to build a community that people want to be a part of.

Michael's really excited about some of the things the production crew taught him about making films...look out USM, he's got some new tricks up his sleeve!
This was such a fun opportunity and I'm really glad they thought we were something special and would want to come all this way to make a video of us.
Once everything is finished and the video is posted I'll be sure to let y'all know--well, as long as I don't sound absolutely ridiculous on camera!

A COLD SUNDAY WALK

It's been a little more difficult to get out and take a walk lately with all the cold weather we've been having and the fact that we've been passing around the crud.  Sunday we decided it was worth it to get out for a bit and let the kids ride their scooters.
Anne got this crazy three wheel scooter thing and it's hilarious to watch her because you basically have to shake you hips to make it go.

Liam loves his new tricycle.  He thinks he's doing all the steering when actually you get to control from the back!
And poor ol' Pepper has got to get out more.  She was freaking out at every smell and sound she heard.  I never say this because I do love winter, but come on spring!

SEWING AGAIN

I spent a day last week cleaning off my sewing table.  It's been quite a while since it was used regularly.  I have been wanting to get back to it though.  For the past three years I've focused on our family and teaching, but I'm ready to get creative again and make some things for hello dearie.  It's hard for me to believe that it's been five years since we started this thing.  Here are a few of my first posts here.  When we started I had no idea how much I would love blogging and creating handmade things, or the community that I would soon fall in love with.  I'm so thankful for all these things, and the times that I got to spend doing all of this with one of my favorite people.
Now, it's just me (with the support of my family and friends) but I'm ready to forge ahead and continue the things that we started way back then.
I've decided to make our beloved bunnies again.  Thankfully I had a few arms and legs left from before to get us started!
I've also got a few helpers in training.  It makes my heart full that Anne is so interested in learning to sew!  She and Lily had their first lesson and made a simple little drawstring bag.  I was super impressed at how well they picked it up.  These girls will be big help when it comes to turning out arms and legs!
I don't know what the future holds, but I'm trusting God and letting him guide me.  I'm overwhelmed by his goodness and how he cares about the little things in my life.

HELLO MONDAY

It's Monday, and the start back to work after the new year.  I'm looking forward to these next few months with these kiddos at school.  They are some of the smartest/most creative kids I know.  I'm thankful for this job and my time as a teacher.
Someone mentioned the quote on the picture to me today, and I have decided it's my new motto.  As a working mom, there's not usually a lot of hours left in the day that can be spent doing things that make me happy.  Not that doing things for my family doesn't make me happy, but I think it's really important to have hobbies and do things just for you.  It keeps you at your best and in a good mind set for serving others.  Life is short and it's gonna seem like we blink and it's over.  I want to spend my days doing things I love and with the people I love!

KITCHEN UPDATE

As promised, here are some pictures of the kitchen!  This is half of it anyway.  We still have to scrub the grout and caulk the other side, but for all practical purposes we're done!
I can't tell you how proud I am of Michael.  He never likes/doesn't think he's good at doing any kind of handy around the house work, but this tile job is as good as any I've ever seen!  It might have taken us a lot longer than a professional, but I definitely think it's worth it to DIY!

WELCOME 2015

Happy new year folks!  We've started this year doing a minor kitchen reno.  Last week we had new counter tops installed and now we're working on the back splash.  Michael would swear that he's no handy man, but after this tile job I'm not letting hime say that anymore!  I'm so proud of his hard work and it's looking great!
I will post a finished picture after everything is cleaned up tomorrow!
And these two...I have been spoiled the past two weeks being home with them.  I have the sweetest two kids I've ever met.  I may be a little partial, but I'm the mama so I can.  Any time I make my bed (and lets be honest, this doesn't happen every day) these two are like bees to honey....something attractive about a made bed.
After a full day of work at home, we made the drive to Michael's dad's to cook our new year's traditional meal.  When we told Anne she would have to have at least one bite of cabbage she almost cried.  Once she tried it, she even liked it a little though.
Here's to 2015!  I can't wait to see what fun and exciting things are in store for us!
