We had a fig party this week, and by fig party I mean we made lots of strawberry figs!
The last time Susan and I got to make figs was three years ago and there was only one child between the two of there are four which makes things a little more interesting!
When Adam heard that we were making figs, he and Fincher came over to join in the fun and eat a biscuit when the jam was done!
It was a fun and busy day, but we've got 20 pints of jam and that's definitely worth the hard work!

If you've got access to figs and want to make some here ya go!

4 cups of blended figs
3 cups of sugar
2 small boxes of strawberry jello

Mix all ingredients in a large boiler.  Once the mixture comes to a boil, start your timer for seven minutes continuing to stir.  Remove from heat after 7 minutes. Pour into sterilized jars and seal.  Let cool.
Yields 5 half pints per recipe.

Our summer is winding down quickly and I'm kind of getting into that panic mode that happens 2 weeks before school starts.  The one where I start dreading school and having to be on a schedule, and also get really excited about school and getting on a schedule.  haha...I know I'm not the only one that feels this way, but gosh it's so conflicting.  I think having babies to tend to make it a little harder to want to get on a school routine.  Obviously I'll be with Anne so that's no biggie, but I'm so sad to have to leave Liam everyday.  He's grown so much this summer.  Not just in size but he's talking so much and getting so much personality!  He's constantly entertaining us...between he and his big sister we are never lacking in the entertainment department!
So we're gonna try to pack as much fun as we can into the next few weeks.  We started today with a trip to SnoBiz...can't believe we haven't gone the first time this summer!
As you can see, everyone enjoyed it!
I'm looking forward to working in my classroom tomorrow.  Nothing like a good work day to get you in the mood for school!

Have you been to the Hattiesburg Zoo lately?  We usually go a couple of times a year, and I always wish it was more.  I was excited to see that they are continuing to make positive changes and updates.  They've added a great little discovery center that even has a cool room to hold events.

And after you get all hot and sweaty, you can cool down over on the splash pad!

We ended our day with a train ride where Liam learned to say "choo choo".  Now he says it ALL the time!  We are already planning our next visit.  Want to join us?

We had dinner tonight with Adam and Lily.  We grilled the biggest steaks I've ever, the kind the dog eats on Tom and Jerry big.  We also had asparagus, roasted potatoes, salad, french bread, and then blueberry crisp for dessert.  It was de-lish.  And even though there were about a million flies around, we sat outside and enjoyed the cool summer night air.

While the guys talked about the Brazil/Germany soccer game from yesterday, Lily and I planned food for our book club this week.  We've just read The Paris Wife, and I can hardly wait to discuss it with everyone.  It's definitely in my top 5 favorite books...I loved it so much.
In other news, the kids have gone to stay with Michael's dad for two nights!  I've had a teaching workshop out of town and needed a sitter, so it worked out best this way.  I'm missing them terribly and can't wait to see them tomorrow.  It's been the strangest thing being home at night without them.  The house feels too quiet and I don't quite feel myself but I am enjoying the extra quiet time and uninterrupted bath time.

Our weekend started with a cookout and fireworks in the park downtown, then a day trip to Pensacola to visit some of Michael's family.  I'd rather not have to make that four hour drive twice in one day, but we made the best of it and enjoyed our time with family and our time together in the car.
We broke it up on the way home with a quick stop at Build a Bear.
Then we spent Sunday afternoon on the lake.  We've been trying to take the boat out all summer and things just keep coming up.  It was such a nice day.  Hopefully there will be lots more boat days to come!

I love this quote so much.  I tend to always be a planner, so it's hard to be content with what's happening right now on the journey.  I'm always looking forward or thinking about the future, which can be a good thing.  But I think this quote just states that both matter.  The end point and the journey.  The end point gives the journey purpose.
I'm currently reading The Paris Wife. Have you read it yet?  It follows the story of Ernest Hemingway meeting and marrying his first wife, Hadley Richardson.  It's been so interesting and I feel like I'm meeting all of these people in real life.  As new people/characters are introduced in the book, I find myself googling them and devouring any information about their lives...Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, Harold Loeb are just a few of my new acquaintances.  It's been really fun to kind of immerse myself in their world each night as I read.  And then it makes me unbelievably thankful for my husband....that he is devoted to me and loves only me.  I feel sad for anyone who has ever had to go through betrayal and adultery.  I feel like it must be one of the worst things a person could have to endure.

Have you see the Like a Girl video?  I am totally loving it.  It pumped me up to instill confidence in Anne and make sure she's not feeling bad about doing things like a girl.
What's your take on it? Do you think the term has had a negative effect on girls in general or you personally?
