These two kiddos just make my heart burst with love.  Even though Liam has only been with us for 6 1/2 months it's hard to imagine life with out him.  And all of this love brings me to these thoughts...

I got to thinking this morning during our devotion at school about miracles.  Our devotion was a story of a man that had several medical problems and the church he attended prayed and God healed him.  My first reaction to these stories is..."there's no way this really happened."  As I talked to my kids about this, I told them that God can heal, and sometimes does heal.  BUT even when he doesn't, He is still good.  I always like to think of the end of Narnia when they are discussing Aslan's character.  "He isn't tame, but he is good."  I think that's one lesson that God has really taught me over the past two years.  His plan doesn't fit inside my little box and doesn't always go according to what I wish or plan.

At times I can worry myself sick over "what ifs..."  what if something happens to Michael, what if something happens to Anne or Liam...and on down the list.  But really, the reality of it is when will something happen.  I know it's coming.  The good times come right along with the bad and it's only a matter of time before someone I love is hurt or worse.  The only thing that keeps me from completely going crazy at this realization is that God is good.  He loves me and even when the bad times come, He will still be with me.  And that has to be enough.  My relationship with Christ has to be enough.  Otherwise, I'm doomed.

I say all this to say, the hope of Christ surpasses everything.  I hope you know this hope as well.

"A portrait of my kids once a week, every week."

Liam: Enjoying his dinner.
Anne: Cheering for the Boston Redsox.

I'm sad that things have been a little quiet around here lately.  With school starting, things have definitely been a little more hectic.  I don't plan on letting thing be neglected for long, but there will probably be an adjustment period.  I hope you all are doing well, and I hope to be back soon!

whew.  This has been a crazy crazy week.  I started school Monday and kids came yesterday.  We are adjusting to waking up extra early, getting two kids ready, and getting everyone where they're supposed to be by 7:45 am....talk about hard work.
Anne is so excited to be in first grade...she says she can't believe she gets to eat her snack on the playground now!  :)  I am loving my 5th and 6th graders so much...I can actually remember those being such fun years.  I hope I can make it special for these guys too!
Also, my wonderful husband created our school's new website.  We are all so proud of it and all the ways it's making communication easier!  He's just the best!

For the past few weeks we've been watching all of the Harry Potter movies with Anne.  By the time we made it the 5, 6, and 7 she had mostly lost interested because she just wasn't sure what all was going on, but she didn't want to stop watching.  After the last movie, she decided that she wanted to make a Hermione doll.  This is what came of it.  Of course, I help her some, but this was totally her design and she did lots of the sewing.  I haven't let her have free reign to the sewing machine...I'm afraid I'm a little too OCD for that just yet.
Now she wants to make Harry and Ron.  I told her we could ONLY if she makes their legs and arms wider...this thing was a booger to turn and stuff!

I love that children are so creative and am so very thankful for this little girl.  Which reminds me of this Ted Talk.  Parents and teachers, give yourself 20 minutes and LISTEN to it...good stuff there.

We love Daft Punk...I'm afraid it is true.  Michael has been trying for ages to get me to like techno music...  When he came home with this new album I just kind of rolled my eyes that he'd spent so much money on a new record (especially one that I couldn't even enjoy!)  He, of course, put it right into the player.  Anne began to do her thing and dance around the entire room.  Before long, we were all up with her having the best time.  That's the only way I can describe this music...it makes you want to move--or even not, if you just want to chill and listen.  I now find myself putting it on to play even when I'm alone.  I still can't say I liiike techno, but I DO like Daft Punk and especially this album.  If you've got time, you should give it a listen.  You'll be glad you did!
Oh, and three different times Liam has been screaming his head off (most of these were in the car) and when we turned on Daft Punk he immediately stopped and listened.  Weird.
Happy Monday to you all!

This little guy turned 6 months old this week.  He loves playing peek a boo, chewing on anything, and jumping!  At his check up two weeks ago he was almost 19 pounds, so I'm thinking close to 20 now.  He's definitely healthy!  He's eating baby food like crazy...I haven't given him anything he won't eat, although I don't think the rutabagas were his favorite.
We sure do love him like crazy around here...we're constantly in competition to see who can make him laugh.  And, oh that laugh is infectious!

So, there's the rest of our Boston pictures.  I have more from my phone that I may get around to sharing someday, but I'm not making any promises!
I hope you're all having a great week.  Anne and I are spending our days working in my classroom getting ready for kiddos next week!  I can't wait to get this year started!

Sunday evening we were so very excited to welcome our new niece, baby Fincher, into our family!  She is such a beautiful, precious little girl and we all can't wait to love on her.  It's been the coolest thing watching Adam and Lily become parents.  Parenthood is like this magical thing that you don't understand until you experience it, and it's really cool to watch people you love join the club.  I'm so proud for them and know that they will be wonderful, Godly parents.  This is one lucky little girl :)
Congratulations y'all!!!

The kids and I thoroughly enjoyed our days in Boston while Michael learned lots at his conference.  It is such a beautiful city.
On our first day, we made the mile walk over to Trident Bookseller's and Cafe on Newbury street.  It was an adorable little book store with delicious french toast!   I had the breakfast Monte Cristo and Anne had french toast...we should have shared an order it was so much food!
Our next stop was the public library.
Then we made our way to the public garden.  This was by far my favorite spot and where we went anytime we needed a break.  We enjoyed ice cream, riding the swan boats, and the carousel.
The guy that sold us ice cream was so kind and gave us a free ticket for the swan boats...  we met some of the nicest people in Boston...which was something I didn't expect!
I could get used to the 79 degree weather they were having at the end of July!  Made this city even more appealing.

Remember last year when my husband hacked my blog on our anniversary?  I just went back and read it and got so teary.  I can't believe it's been another year!  And that Liam wasn't even here...It seems like he's always been with us.
We don't have any big anniversary plans this year...Boston kind of wiped us out ( of energy and money. haha!)  I am glad I get to spend this day with my beloved though, even if it's cleaning out the pantry and getting caught up on chores.
I love you Michael Trest.  I wouldn't be the same person with out you...and that's a good thing.

P.S. Anne took these pictures while we were in the boston public garden...I thought it was hilarious that she took three so she could get our whole body.  I was just gonna use the head shot in this post, but thought it would be fun to look back and remember that day and how funny it was!

downtown, boston
We made it home!  It's always fun to travel but there's no better feeling than pulling up to your own home.  We had SUCH a fun time in Boston, and are already looking forward to visiting that beautiful city again some day.  Thanks for all of the recommendations on things to do there!  We didn't get to them all, but definitely enjoyed the ones we did!
Now I'm washing an endless pile of laundry and wishing for a nap to catch up on some much needed rest...can't wait to share more on our trip next week!
Have a great weekend!
