One Day

Last night I finally had the opportunity to check another thing off my 30 things list.  I went to see a movie...alone.  I went to the 9:15 showing and got there about 20 minutes early.  I sat there doing nothing.  I kept thinking I'd grab my phone to check twitter or face book, but I had left it at home.  It was actually kind of nice though.  I just sat there and thought.  I thought about whatever I wanted to think about. It was kind of weird and eerie sitting there all alone...see, I thought I was going to have the entire theater to myself until 3 girls walked in as the movie began.
Anyway, I chose to see One Day because it looked like a nice romance with a happy ending.  I didn't really know too much about it except that Anne Hathaway was playing the lead with a pretty handsome fellow I didn't know.
Well, with out giving too much away.  I just want to say the movie was good.  I love indie romance movies...I did cry more than I expected to though.  It was nice to sit there alone and cry without the embarrassment of someone you know sitting beside you.  I hate to cry in front of people.
If you've never gone to the movies alone, it's a nice thing to do.

I think I'll take advantage of $6 Tuesday's more often :)

weekend photos

This was such a relaxing weekend for us.  One of those that we didn't really have anything planned or that we had to do.  It had been a while since one of those!  We slept in, ate lots of yummy food, visited the library, got to spend time with family and friends, and I actually got some sewing done!  I'm really excited to show you the things we're making for Christmas!  Can you believe September is this week, and we've only got 4 months till Christmas?  This year seems to be flying by and I'm trying my best to enjoy every moment.  Are you an early shopper?  I haven't even began to think about that!

I wore my new dress with a necklace that Michael gave me several years ago.  I'll share more in my weekly wardrobe post :)

This last picture isn't technically from the weekend, but I loved Anne's robot we made last week and just wanted to share it here.
I hope you all had a great weekend too!

weekly wordrobe: pink tights

You may not know this about me, but I really love fashion.  I mean, what girl doesn't right?
I've decided in my ventures to step out of my comfort zone and become a little more fashionable, I'm going to try to post a weekly outfit.  This will hopefully help me to not have too many of those pajama days...we all know that life is a little more productive if we get up and dressed in the mornings.
I feel like as much as I love bright colors and outfits that stand out a little, it's hard for me to become the center of attention when wearing some of these focal pieces.

So Wednesday when I was getting dressed, which happens to be my day to work in Laurel, I ended up pulling out this old black dress that I've had for ages and decided I would pair it with my bright pink tights I purchased on clearance last spring.  I know it's 100 degrees outside, but I wanted to think fall.  Lord knows I am ready for fall!

dress and tights: clearance from Belk
belt: borrowed from my sister
shoes: gifted from a friend

For those of you that can relate to this and want to try to step out of your comfort zone a little, I'm thinking of doing a weekly link up where you can share your outfits with each other and encourage each other.  What do you think?  Would you participate?

little shop update

Hey guys!
I've been wasting this week away like a bum. It was weird when I woke up and it was Wednesday and I couldn't really think of anything productive I've done all week...besides house keeping things like laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc...  I guess Anne and I are soaking up the last days of summer.
I did manage to photograph and list a few new goodies in our shop if you wanna hop over and take an looksy.
white pillow cover with flower
yellow ballerina bunny
blue boy bear
pink girl bear

We are gearing up for some new, exciting things that are in the works soon!
Can't wait till I can share the details with you all!

Anne style: shades of blue

I've mentioned before how Anne has really gotten into picking out her own clothes.  When we're not going anywhere important (like school, church, etc...) I let her wear whatever she wants...within reason :)
I thought it'd be fun to document some of those outfits here.
This was definitely a blue day.

She's pretty creative at coming up with her own poses.
I'm so excited she has learned to tie her own, it's takes her like a million years to do it, but she can!

I'm so amazed everyday by this little girl.  I really can't imagine my life without her.

Our weekend from my phone.

I didn't do so well at taking my camera with me this weekend so these phone shots will have to do.  Besides, it was pretty uneventful for the most part.  We did see The Wizard of Oz, which was absolutely amazing!   I may be a little biased, but I'm pretty sure my sister would give Judy Garland a run for her money :)
Other than that, we just did lots of random stuff.
Anne and "Dorothy" after the play.  Anne was amazed the whole time and didn't take her eyes from the stage.  It was precious to see her so excited!
arthur, dw, kid drawing
She's also become quite the artist.  This is her picture of Arthur and DW.
It was surprisingly accurate.
She said the little curls on their heads were their baby hairs...I thought that was too funny!
french braid
home made biscuits, pear preserves
pear preserves
My sweet friend Amy shared a jar of her pear preserves with us, and I couldn't wait to get them on some biscuits.  So, of course we had breakfast for dinner and ate half the jar already.  They were SOOO yummy!

I hope you all had a fun weekend!
I'm excited to spend the day with one of my favorite people tomorrow...and I plan to take lots of photos!
Goodnight :)

Bianchi's and an outfit

Hello friends!
I have had a super busy week thus far!  I don't even know what I've been doing, but it feels like I've been running non stop.  Do you ever feel this way?
I thought I'd link up with the Pleated Poppy today and share an outfit from this past weekend with you all.
Our favorite pizza place is Bianchi's.  Hands down.  It's super thin crust baked in a brick oven with fresh toppings make it exceptional in the pizza department.  It's also great that we all three LOVE it!  Happy faces all around :)

I secretly think Anne's favorite part is getting to visit the candy machine after her meal.

I got Michael to snap a few photos on our way back to the car.  Does anyone else ever feel silly posing for pictures?  I definitely do.  Thankful for a little girl that tends to find her way in.

Remember when I was wishing for a leather backpack purse???  I found this super cute leather one at the Goodwill for $6!!!  I was so pumped!
Dress and tank: Target (spent $8 on the clearance rack!)

Feather hair clip DIY

I have a great, and quick, little DIY that will give your hair a little flair!

feather hair clip

If you're like me, then you are seeing feathers everywhere these days!  I love the look, but didn't like the idea of putting them in permanently at the salon.  This is a fun way to have the best of both worlds with a Bohemian style!

Things you'll need:

Cut your strip of leather to the desired length.

And there you have it...  Easy as pie and cute as can be!  I can't wait to wear mine out!

I originally guest posted this over on Annie's blog, but thought you guys may enjoy it too!

hand made dorothy costume, wizard of oz

rummikub, board games
This was a roller coaster of a weekend...Saturday I finished up two dresses for my sister's Dorothy costume, made a trip to the fabric store for a new project I'm starting,  and finished another sewing project.  Yay for productivity!!!
Sunday I made up for it with a super relaxing afternoon hanging out with family and playing games.

Now, for hopefully a productive Monday :)

Anne's story

I love that my daughter loves art and has a huge imagination.
Today she decided she wanted to write and illustrate a story.  Daddy made it into a video that we'll treasure forever.  The song is one that we ALL love.  Anne sings it all the time which makes my heart happy.
Dang, I love this kid!

Breakfast for dinner and a recipe

One of our most favorite things in the world is to cook breakfast food at dinner time.  Since we're rarely ever up early enough to cook these things in the morning, it just works for us to make it a night meal.
The other night, I was thumbing through my Pioneer Woman cookbook and drooling over everything.  When I saw the eggs in the hole, I knew what we would be having that night!
I decided to whip up some hash brown potatoes and turkey bacon to go along with it, and boy was it yummy!
We wish you could have been there :)

Don't judge my unwashed hair...being a SAHM allows for these things to happen every now and then.

We even got to put that delicious jam that we made last month to good use.

Yummy Hashbrown Potatoes
4 or 5 small red potatoes (you can use gold, but we love red)
1/4 cup canola oil
1 onion
salt and pepper to taste
any other seasonings you like
Cube potatoes leaving a little skin and boil until just tender.  Be sure to not over cook potatoes or they'll be too soggy.  While potatoes are boiling, heat canola oil and chop onion. (I always use a cast iron skillet.)  Add onions to oil and allow to cook until tender...I usually like mine a little brown.
Drain potatoes and add to onions.  Add seasoning.  Stir everything together then allow potatoes to cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side so they'll have time to brown.  There's nothing better than a crispy edge  on your hashbrowns.

Goodbyn: product review

A few months ago, I came across this eco friendly lunch box by Goodbyn.  I thought it was a great way to save the environment by not using plastic bags in Anne's lunch for school. (...which I used everyday last year.)
It comes with tons of stickers so your child can decorate their box however they want.  Anne LOVES stickers, so hers is covered randomly.
I do love the way it turned out, though!

Things I love:
-that it saves on plastic bags
-included a water bottle
-separate compartments don't allow food to mix
-can be customized by the owner
-easily carried by a handle

The only thing I don't really love is that the lid is a little difficult for Anne to close by herself.  But I'm sure after some practice, she'll be able to do it just fine. :)
Happy Thursday to you all!
I'm off to make some Dorothy costumes for my sweet sister!
