An outfit, embarrassing moment, and a giveaway

outfit details:
shirt, Target.
skirt, thrifted.
belt, thrifted.
shoes, Target.

So now for the embarrassing moment...

I went in to work a while yesterday, and as I was leaving I saw the little park across the street.  I realized I had been wanting photograph my new skirt I thrifted a few weeks ago.  I looked around; the streets were quiet so I thought this will be a great opportunity to take a few pictures.  I was obviously using my self timer, and then I see one of the people I work with walking around the corner looking at me like, "what in the world are you doing?!"  I was so embarrassed, I did what anyone of you would do...I started taking pictures of the scenery!  The green grass, trees, whatever was around.  I'm pretty sure I didn't play it off too well, though :)

Now, make me feel better and share an embarrassing moment of yours in the comments below!
The best one, gets a brand new camera strap :D

We'll also be at the Street Faire tonight, and I'll have several there among other things!  We'd love to see you!

Weekend photos

We had such a fun relaxing weekend at the lake...probably the last time for a while.  I love times when you just get to hang out and lose track of time :)

I did make time to go to Hope's wedding, though.. It was absolutely beautiful.  I was so excited to see all of the things I made, and so thankful that everybody loved them, too :)

1. another camping trip to the lake
2.  skiing and boat time with the family
3. Hope's wedding!

farmer's market and a Spanglish

Thursday is farmer's market day here in Hattiesburg.  After we got the best bread and veggies EVER two weeks ago, I was glad to go back.  Today we scored Southbound bagels and bread, tomatoes, blueberry lemonade, and a cookie for the little miss.  We also got interviewed for the local newspaper.
For all of you Laurel folks, theirs is tomorrow, and I'm sure there are tons of goodies to be had...  You should drop by!

Now for the BEST summer sandwich...I'm not kidding.

The Spanglish.
Have you seen the movie?  Well, there is a part where Adam Sandler is making a sandwich and he adds a fried egg.  You know, the kind where the yolk is still a little runny.  Yes, that's the way we like our eggs in this house, and that's why this is the best sandwich ever. ;)

what you'll need.
fried egg
salt & pepper

This is another great reason to visit your local farmer's market.

Anne style: an outfit post

Anne has really gotten into picking out her own clothing these days.  She picks out some of the cutest things...seriously.  I'm trying to fight the control freak inside (yes, it's there) and let her have fun with her clothes.  I can remember having such a fun time when I was younger putting together my own outfits.  Besides, I'm really trying to not stifle any creativity after watching this video.  (If you're a parent, or spend any time with children, I highly recommend watching!)

Today's outfit is dedicated to my sister, Brooke :)  When she was little she had a pair or two of red shoes that she insisted on wearing EVERY day!!!

I hope you all have a GREAT day!

father's day

When I married Michael almost 9 years ago, he was never overly excited about the thought of having children.  But really, who could blame him?  He grew up in a really small family and had never even held a baby until Anne came along.  You wouldn't expect someone who had so little "baby" experience to turn out to be such an amazing dad.  I swear, I get weak in the knees when I watch them together.  He has such patience with her...and me too.  I love this man more every day, and getting to see him be a father just makes our days sweeter.

We got to spend the day with my dad and granddad which was a special treat.
Those two are pretty inseparable these days :)

camping :)

We are enjoying a nice little vacation this week at the lake...lots of grilled food, skiing, boating, lounging around, fishing, and time with my little family.  This has been a much needed break, so hopefully I'll make up for neglecting the blog next week.

If you care to know how things are going with us, feel free to follow me over on twitter :)  I'll be updating little things there!

P.S.  Thank you all so much for the sweet comments from the last post...they truly meant so much to me!!!

How do you measure success?

Just so you know, this blog is about to get serious for a minute.
I have always, or at least as long as I can remember, dealt with a bit of low self esteem.  I grew up in a broken home with lots to be desired as a child, so it was always easy to find people who appeared to have more than I did.  I can easily think of several times where I felt like I didn't fit in with certain people or felt inferior because I didn't wear the same brand or have the latest fashions.  It seemed as though I was constantly striving to be like someone else or get what someone else had.  I'm sure I'm not the only one that has experienced these feelings...right? :)  As I grew older, these feelings subsided a little.  Mostly because of a relationship with Christ.  I tried to embrace who I was and who God was molding me to be....something I'm still working on.

Since starting my blog/business I've noticed that I'm dealing with these same old feelings of inferiority.  I look at other people's businesses and blogs and long for my own to have the same caliber of coolness if you will.  There are so many fantastic blogs out there today; you don't have to look far.  They have the best layouts and designs with the greatest posts and features.  A little voice inside my head says, "why can't my stuff be this good?"

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about this little voice that tells us we're not good enough or that we need to be better than we are.  I have decided that we don't have to compare ourselves to anyone else.  It's okay to just be me...the girl that loves simple things and is learning as she goes how to do all of this business/blogging stuff.

I say all of this to say, that however you measure your success, make sure it's realistic and it's about becoming the best YOU!  Don't compare yourself to other people and feel like a failure when you aren't in the same places as others.  It's about the journey, and figuring stuff out along the way.

I hope all of this came out the way it is in my head...I do not claim to be the best of writers :)  And, please know that I do not want all of you to feel bad for me in any way!!!  I am blessed beyond measure.  It's just hard to always remember that.  I just thought that if I'm feeling this way, maybe others are too.  It's something we can work on together :)

On a bright note, I'm so looking forward to spending time with some of my favorite girls this weekend!

family art day

I'm so thankful that our area has such a fantastic art museum.  Every Wednesday during the summer LRMA is offering a free art project and snacks for kids!  Today we made a fish collage.  Anne was a little disappointed when she realized that her picture wasn't going to be displayed in the museum, but all in all it was great fun :)

restFULL day

Yesterday was one of those days where it was fun and busy!  I got 21 new pillow covers cut out and in the works, got the laundry done, and relaxed at the pool will my sweet friend, Hagan.   I swear, this heat is KILLING me, so we were glad to cool off a bit.
I also got lots of fresh veggies and made THE best cucumber tomato salad!  I'll have to share the simple recipe later :)

I hope you all have a great Tuesday.
I'll be working and getting ready for sewing class this afternoon!
xx, Dawn

weekend photos: dance recital

This has been the best weekend...busy, but really great!  Anne had her very first dance recital yesterday (I'm hoping the first of many.)  All of the kids were too cute!  I couldn't stop smiling the whole time.  Here's a few of my favorite shots.

In other news, I checked everything off of my weekend list from Friday!  I'm so happy, that I think I'll reward myself with a day off tomorrow :)
