weekend photos: Fairhope

What a fun weekend this has been!
Anne and I took off early Friday morning headed for Fairhope for a girl's weekend with Gigi.
Can I just say, this is such an endearing town.
You really should visit if you get the chance.  I loved it's downtown atmosphere and the quaint feeling it gives.  It seems like most of our family is either living there or on there way...
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure we're not going anywhere anytime soon!

It will be a fun little get away every now and then, though.

First thing was lunch at MaryAnn's, where I had the BEST salad with the freshest vegetables ever!

It was also the open house for Aunt Cindy's antique store.

Reason number #31,254 that Anne loves Aunt Cindy.  She loves to break it down!

We didn't eat at Fly Creek Cafe, but it's a must if you're ever in Fairhope.
Try the fish tacos :)

We also made time for a day on the beach, and dinner at Lulu's.

Now, we are glad to be home to see daddy and sleep in our own beds!

Daily reads.

One of my favorite things to do is read blogs.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: there are some amazing blogs out there!
These are 3 that are definitely on my daily reads list.
So, get cozy and get ready to meet some amazing gals!

First up is LittleMissMomma.
Her down to earth style of writing and honesty draws me in from the get go.

Next up is Rachel Denbow over at Smile and Wave
Her love for vintage and style inspires me....and make me want to visit every flea market in Missouri!

Last but definitely not least is Leigh Ann of Freckled Next.
She was one of the first blogs I ever read and love her sense of humor.
I feel like we could be best friends :)

Now I'm off to pack for a fun girl's weekend in Fairhope!
I plan on taking lots of pictures, trying to eat healthy, and working in exercise time while I'm there.

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

When it rains...

It pours.
Today was one of those days for me.

I hate to be a complainer,
but today really stunk for several reasons that I won't go into here.

Then Michael told me his computer was officially dead.
That means we get to drop a couple of grand that we don't have on a new one soon.
And this makes my stomach hurt.
The one and ONLY down side to being a stay at home momma, is it definitely makes the finances a little more stressful.  I also tend to be the worrier type.  The two don't marry well.
Then I got a call from a mother of one of Anne's little friends from preschool asking for a playdate.  She's a mother of three with one having severe disabilities, and another with learning disabilities.

I immediately felt ashamed of my complaining.
ashamed of having felt like my day wasn't so great.
ashamed that I take so many things for granted.

I guess it just kind of put things in perspective for me.
Things can always be worse.
There is probably a lesson or two to be learned.
I am blessed.
God is in control.

When I put things in perspective, I have absolutely nothing to worry about.

weekend photos: a surprise party!

Our weekend consisted of a surprise birthday party for one of my bestest friends (you can read her version of the story here), a day trip to Pensacola with my mom, and a family day on Sunday!  It was one of those weekends where I mostly forgot to take pictures because we were too busy having a good time.  I think that's a good thing every now and then :)

What did you do this weekend?

3rd Thursdays

3rd thursdays
Every 3rd Thursday downtown Laurel has live music from local artists.  Michael and I thought it'd be a nice change from playing at church, so we signed up for this month.  Of course, miss Anne had to debut!  She sang You are my Sunshine and didn't miss a beat.  This child loves to perform and has no inhibitions about being on a stage in front of people.  I love that she is so comfortable with herself...I'm so proud of her!

Beware if you're around Anne and have a dog.  She will immediately relieve you of your duties and take over.  This owner and dog were so kind.
This girl LOVES dogs :)

Thanks to my friend Jeremy for all of these photos...isn't he great?!

breakfast at the bakery

We have THE best bakery right around the corner from our house, C'est La Vie.  It was even featured in the May/June issue of Mississippi Magazine.  It is owned by the sweetest frenchman I've ever met...possibly the only frenchman I've ever met.  Regardless, the baked goods are to die for!  We indulged on a cinnamon roll croissant, mouse cookie, and something else divine that I can't remember the name.
Anne has been wanting to go for over a week, since I told her about the mouse cookies.  She has had her little purse ready, and insisted that she pay for her own cookie.

I really love supporting local businesses.  It's right up there with recycling for me.  Besides, Starbucks just can't compete with these fresh pastries...and the coffee is good too :)

work in progress

I mentioned the other day that Cyndi and I finally got to start on Anne's quilt.  Well, here's a little peek at what we've done thus far.  We made about 40 pinwheels using Moda fabric and white cotton and are now looking for the perfect fabric to use in between and as a border.  We're trying to decide if it needs to be a solid or a print (like a polka dot.)  What do you think?

I'm linking up over at Freshly Pieced.  Click over to check out all of the other works in progress :)

easy, no heat curls

no heat curls
A few weeks ago, I saw THIS tutorial on no heat curls.  I was intrigued and promptly got out of bed and started trying to get my hair up for curls.  Sadly, my hair was a little too thick or maybe I'm just not coordinated enough to do my own.
So, I tried Anne's instead.

Hopefully, I will be able to get mine up soon!  I loved the way it turned out!

weekend photos

Our weekend started on Thursday last week and the farmer's market was our first stop.  We got these beautiful zinnias along with bread, a cinnamon roll, and peaches.  Later that day we picked up Lily, our pastor's daughter, to come spend the weekend with us.  She is just the sweetest little girl.  She and Anne had the best time playing at the zoo, and going to see Winnie the Pooh with Gigi.

Having two little girls sure does make it harder to get things done, but it was totally worth the fun!

Yesterday, Cyndi and I got a great start on Anne's quilt!  I can't wait to share pictures!

visiting the library

library visit

When I first told Michael that we were expecting, his first words were "we don't have enough books!"

Needless to say, a love for reading was something that we very much wanted to instill in our child.  With help from our family and friends we have accumulated quite a collection of wonderful books for her.
Since I've become a SAHM, our weekly story time at the library has been something we look forward to.  We don't get to go EVERY week, but when we do it is such a treat!  There is story telling, song singing, and playtime with new friends.

library visiting

Why we love visiting the library
1. It's teaching Anne to be responsible.
We always keep her books on her bookshelf or table.  She is responsible for taking care of them and making sure they don't get lost.
2. It's great mommy/daughter time.
We love to sit down at a table and read a book together, select books, and sing along with the songs and rhymes.
3. It provides time for her to interact with other children and grown ups.
Since Anne is an only child right now, it is a great time for her to be around other children.  She also loves to check out her own books.  She is definitely little miss independent!
4.  Most of all, I believe it is teaching her to love reading and books more.
Of course, we allow TV time, but she would rather read a book together than watch TV 90% of the time and this makes me smile.

I think this list could go on and on, but you get the point.  I love that Anne loves books and reading, and I credit that to being surrounded with people that value and love reading.  Visiting the library is just a way for us to spend time together doing something we both love.  Reading.

If you're a stay at home mom or working mom, I want to encourage you to visit your library one afternoon or Saturday.   You'll be glad you did, and I'm sure your child will someday thank you for it!

weekend photos

This weekend just flew by.
Saturday was spent at the lake with new friends.
Sunday was church, then Anne's best little friend Nat came to stay with us.
We girls had a great time. Too bad daddy had to spend all of his free time writing a stinky paper.

Hope you have a lovely Monday!
